What coffee are you drinking right now?

I don`t normally do this, but strictly as an experiment, I blended a cup of Costa Rican beans and a cup of Organic Nicaraguan beans, and ran them through the grinder. I was astounded by the results, this was a real home run....rich, smooooooth flavor right from the get-go, it improves with a slight reduction in temperature. I`m a happy camper !

I just made non-instant coffee for the first time in my life. I used Maxwell House Gourmet Roast (it was on sale and I was clueless about what to buy) instead of my usual Chock full O'nuts instant. It reminded me of the percolated coffee that my parents used to make in the 70s. I used the pour over method. I'm cheap so I experimented by using a little under the 3 tbsps of coffee that was recommended in something I read for about a 10 oz. cup of coffee. I'm also impatient so I experimented with allowing a little water to get through the filter above the coffee line. Good news is I didn't notice a paper flavor from my natural filter (which I rinsed with about 10 oz of water, probably over 200 degrees). Bad news is it somehow tasted stronger, or maybe just more coffee-like, and more watery at the same time. I preferred instant to that, but the next time I buy coffee I'll try something that says mild and preferably has some other natural flavor.

Choc full o' nuts French roast. It's not fancy by a long stretch, but it gets the job done. Maybe when I have a few more pay cheques under my belt I'll go for an upgrade.

a sumatra
...that i left in the cupboard for over a year (green). i roasted it the other day and it blew me away...i haven't had sumatra in a while, and know their process is a little different, but i think i love it. maybe i need to age sumatra in a bottom kitchen cabinet more often!

Just goes to show you that there are no hard and fast rules for how long green coffee can be stored and still retain great flavor.

You'll see Aged Sumatra from time to time, but that's a specific process they follow, and is different from you and I just letting greens sit around. :)

Guatemala, from Hixoc Finca in the Huehuetenango region. Its a big hit! I backed off on my dark roast just a bit and it really brought out the body and roundness of the roast. I have a few pounds of my Yirg left and am thinking of blending them.

I recently purchased some Tanzania Peaberry, which is what I`m drinking at the moment. I`m thinking it will easily make it to my "favorites" list....an excellent cup !

I am in Zhongshan, China (very south of China, very close to Macao & Hong Kong, China) and attached photo instant coffees are what I am drinking now.
I need some coffee fix in the morning, but in China hotel, they only put tea bags in the room. Of course, hotel restaurant serves coffee, but it is just a pot of very bad Robusta coffee from nearby countries. Totally un-drinkable. They are actually worse tasting than 3 to 1 instant mix coffees.

Nescafe Gold 3in1 (far left photo) : I bought in Hong Kong and they taste the best, right mix of instant coffee + sugar + cream. but I only have one stick left and I am saving for the best day in China, so that I can celebrate with this last good stick (Yes, very sad.... but you got to do with whatever available at that moment, right?)

The middle one : My china customer gave it to me when he realized that I am out of the Nescafe. this one is made in China and way too much bad cream and not enough coffee. (I tried to take some cream out of the mixed powder, but as you can imagine, I failed miserably. however, no choice. if you want some coffee in your body, you got to drink it)

Kopiko (far right) : actually, I found this coffee mix package from the Danisa butter cookie box that you see in the photo. Again, My customer gave me (since I love sweets), and when I opened the big carton box that contained this cookie box, this cocoa mix was in the box, I guess that Danish cookie company put this Cocoa mix as Cross-Marketing purpose. I tried it this morning, nice, smooth Cocoa Mix, but IT IS NO COFFEE.

YES, I HAVE ONE OF THE HIGHEST SPECIALTY COFFEE EXPORTING COMPANIES IN GUATEMALA, BUT THESE ARE WHAT I AM DRINKING NOW!!!!!

by the way, since I need more caffeine, I take the Kirkland Energy Shot after drinking the mix coffee.

INTERESTING THING IN CHINA : I was running out of Energy Shot, so I went to local 7-11 (yes, they have bunch of 7-11 in China. actually all over the southeast Asian countries. Thailand has the most!). they sell Red Bull at 4.50 Yuan which is about $0.80 per bottle. What a bargain, right? i drank it and it was completely watered down version of Red Bull. Not good at all. But another 7-11 had Red Bull EXTRA. it wasLabeled Red bull EXTRA. it was 6.50 Yuan, about $1.10. Still very cheap, considering local L.A. market sells at $2.50. this was the right one. tasted just like the Red bull from USA.
