Hi all! New here. Years ago, we had a Moccamaster & my husband hated it; we went back to Keurig. I want a coffee maker just for me.

My criteria:

Can make one cup
On the smaller footprint side. Not much
room & low cupboards
Looking for actual machine, not French
Press etc
$300 budget
The simpler the better

Models I’m considering but open to others!
* Moccamaster One Cup
* Ratio Four
* OXO Brew 8 cup

Thank you! If you have these coffee makers, I’d appreciate hearing about your experience with it, good and bad.

@InkedMarie - Love the Ratio 4 if you want a drip brewer and dont mind grinding the beans, cleaning it out, etc.

Otherwise check out https://miltoncoffeeco.com/ ...they're a bit higher than your budget, but checks all the boxes otherwise. Way better than a Keurig

Hi @SlayerMatt ! I’m going to go with the Ratio 4. Makes sense. I’ve never heard of Milton but will take a look!

I think for the quality of the coffee made the Ratio Four would make coffee better than the other 2. However, the regular size Moccamaster KBGT would actually make better coffee then those 3, but you want a smaller machine so the Ratio Four is the better one.

For some reason in the regular Moccamaster they use a shower head dispersion, and a bloom phase, but when they made the Cup One they left the showerhead system, the showerhead help make the coffee taste better, something that Ratio Four does use.

The only caveat with the Ratio Four is that is made in China, the Moccamaster is made in the Netherlands, the Moccamaster will probably out live at least 4 of the Ratio Four makers. But to get the showerhead you have to go with the larger Moccamaster.

Both brands come with a 5-year warranty, but the larger Moccamaster has 22 color options, and can make small servings down to 16 ounces, later if you have guest over you can make more instead of being stuck with just one cup and you have to repeat the making process to make more than one. The Ratio Four will make as little as 5 to as much as 20 ounces; and you can have any color you want as long as it's black!

Hi Froze,
I’ve had the Ratio 4 for a week. Love it so far! Had to dial in grinds, had a couple grounds-in-my-coffee cups. I already had the Encore grinder; very glad I didn’t get the MM in a fun color because I forgot how large the Encore is; there wouldn’t have been room. Amazon had the orange for around $310.
Speaking of colors for Ratio; I have white!

Whenever you get a new or different coffee maker you have to go through the process of experimentation with the grind size. I keep notes on my grind sizes because I have 7 different makers for different types of coffee I make. Even going from dark to light roast there might be a slight change in grind size, darker roast will have a slightly courser grind than light. Let your taste buds do the work, if the coffee is bitter then the grind was too fine, or the water is too hot, but the Ratio 4 should be controlling that aspect of the it.

Congrats, for your needs it did sound like the Ratio 4 was a fit.
