Roasting Machine Installation

Well the suggestion that there may be "room to play" means that you need to play...he want's to limit the amount of play by saying that it "might" come in a little lower. Where is it coming from? Is someone else other than the one who has been to the job site responsible for providing an accurate valuation?? This just sounds sketchy to me. Don't walk away from this guy, run! I'm sure you will find a competent person who will be able to do the work for a lot less. By the way, how many man-hours did he suggest this job would take?

Was that quote from Daryl Lynd? I will pm you his number. I have used him over the years..great guy. JohnD..do you own the building you are in? If not has your landlord seen that hole?

My LL made that hole. I assembled the stack, and he busted through the wall and filled it in; he's a contractor.

Ryan - I just got my quote back for the exhaust install. My situation - running 6" double walled for roaster exhaust, 5" for the cooling tray exhaust (separated) - both 3' above roof penetration. Ceilings are approx 16' high and penetrating a typical steel building. I originally found this company through Nordfab but the owner of this company stated they don't carry a double walled. They are national company that specializes in industrial exhaust... they just happen to be 4 blocks from where I setup shop. The exhaust will be sourced locally from a sheet metal shop. Total without tax is $1630 - this is just exhaust work no mechanicals (electrical or gas).

So is someone setting that exhaust up for you, or are you doing it yourselves? Is that $1630 inclusive of a professional's labor?

The price includes installation of Class A 6" double walled for the roaster exhaust, Class A 5" single walled for the cooling tray exhaust. Installed w/ two roof penetrations.

We paid around $4k for our 60 kilo to be done. That is not bad as long as they are polling permits.

Thanks for the input, Slurp. Approximately how many feet of double-wall ducting did that include?

A lot depends on size of roaster. Here are a couples pics of smaller 2-4 kg roasters setup both using 2 pipes and vented out but many smaller roasters allow you to run cooling tray into pipe off chaff as long as you use a back-draft damper to prevent smoke off chaff from blowing into cooling tray:
image.webpThis is a BC-2000 setup with 4" pipes coming off roaster.image.webpThis is a Sedona Elite 3200 piped out window. Cooling tray is using the stainless steel rigid flex pipe and exits out hole in wall. Both were done by plumber HVAC companies but could easily be done by a handy man or DIY person. One of the strictest cities in Conetticut approved this setup!

as far as electric 220 goes we paid $550 in Arizona to run two 220 lines and a 110 line. First 220 line was only 5' from breaker box but other 2 lines were 20' or more from line and one was a 30A breaker and the other a 60A (which is not needed for gas roasters. We had a electric fluid roaster that was about 7-8000 watts which I have since unloaded for drum roasters)... The above setups as far as piping goes could be done by a DIY for $500

Can you guys who have experience with this look at this sample order and tell me if this would have all the bits and pieces required for the installation going through our exterior wall?

What is your wall made of? Is it flammable or non-flammable?

Also, does the kit come with/require joint sealer for each of the joints in the pipe assembly? What about a collar to connect to the roaster?
