I just wanted to introduce myself and let you all know my goals. I’m a long time drinker of coffee, have also done a bit of research on roasting. Here’s the goal part I currently work at a long established pastry shop. Have been a baker going on ten years at a business that has been around since then end of ww2.
A good friend and co worker of mine that’s also been around for a while carries the same interest in roasting as I do. We have talked with the owners of the place we work and they will give us a storefront to sell our roasted product once we get going.
We also wholesale the pastries that we make to places at a regional level, which gives us another stream of customers that’d be interested in our product once it’s roasted. Our plan is to split the roaster and the green beans and do the work out of his garage and use it as a passive income. Not really looking to spend much money but willing to get a loan between the two of us and buy a machine that would do between 3-5kg batches and roast maybe 1- 2 days a week to get us through to the next week and willing to do more if need be.
There’s a little of my story just wanted to say hi and research procedure and and changes that you all may see we need to do with our model. Also we kind of grew up very poor so we know nothing of how to start all this up any help would be greatly appreciated and would be passed on once the skills are acquired thanks to whoever reads this.

Welcome! Sounds like you’ve got a solid foundation already built-in retail space and wholesale pastry accounts is a huge advantage most startups don’t have

Thank you it’s always just a scary undertaking moving toward the unknown. If nothing else at least we will have quality coffee to drink at home haha

Exactly it’s scary at first, but you’re doing it the right way by learning as you go. Worst case you end up with amazing coffee at home, best case it turns into something real

Always bigger. My first job after my apprenticeship had the first 5 kilo Ambex sold. I got so busy in that little 600 sq foot shop that I had to hire a manager to keep up with the shop because I had to focus on just roasting all day.
