The big knock on the Tonino is it doesn't do whole bean color, only on a fine grind. It does bridge to Artisan I believe.
Yes, I've read some of that criticism as well. However, I think most of the folks who use more expensive color analysis systems do both the whole bean and ground colors. Seems to me that the ground version would be more important, though, because you're getting the overall color of both the INSIDE and OUTSIDE of the beans.
I've decided that I'm going to purchase a Tonino for now, and if it makes sense to get one of the more elaborate machines in the future after several years of being in business, then I will. Seems to me this little gadget will give me enough reference for now, though (and without breaking the bank).
