CoffeeJunky, Where is your friend in Kona? Does the farm have a name? I have many friends there and like to check out other farms.
To confirm, yes, many farms will roast outside and allow the chaff to collect "Where it lands". I'd prefer to collect the chaff more carefully and move to a compost pile. The expense of a chaff collection system is difficult to absorb and therefore often overlooked on a family farm.

Well... I met him few times when I was in California(my sister lives there) but I have never been to his farm or saw him roast.... Just talk to him few times....
