In your opinion, which coffee drinks allow the coffee bean's notes to come through?

As an espresso aficionado (read: snob) I have a hard time discerning notes from any coffee except straight espresso.

I agree with you actually. I'm not a purist yet as I'm partial to cappuccinos and lattes but have had straight espressos and really enjoy them.

Do you roast your own beans? I've tried several cafes with roasters but they weren't too informed and didn't seem that interested in the product, they also don't date their batches.

I am fortunate enough to have plenty of good local coffee shops that either roast their own or source freshly roasted beans from within the states. I'm still surprised to see cafes that don't have an interest in coffee itself, fortunately, there's plenty of coffee subscription services that make this process easier.
