Just curios why you are selling? I have a 15 gallon one I bought and love it. I got super lucky and a company going out of business sold me it for $75. That was a once in a lifetime deal ;)
I have a couple hand grinders. One from the early 1900's and one from the 40's. They both work great but I do not use them. I only tested them when I got them. If you want something that you can pass down then I would definitely go commercial. Whats yoru budget? Ditting makes a small lab...
YO!! I bet your missing the amazing weather here!! Just followed you on IG. Have you ever been to our shops? I roast for Brooklyn water bagels. I just see wasting money to have a security guard in the shop or even outside the shop. If some one tries to rob you...give them the money. How...
The point I was trying to make was that there are loads of possibilities of why you are not getting crema. The coffee is still being tamped, just internally. What brand coffee are you using?
If the coffee isn't fresh you will not get crema. If there isn't enough pressure you will not get crema. If the grind is coarse you will not get crema. If your water is not hot enough you will not get crema. If you do not tamp the coffee enough you will not get crema. What I am saying is...
I have used expensive sample roasters in the past. I bought a Kaldi about 5 or 6 years ago and it worked great for samples...Then it was hit by a car that drove through our front door. I recently bought another one and its great...
It was only me. We didn't have room to add any more machinery at that location. So I had to just put in the work. I would get to a point where I was going to snap and would tell the owner I couldn't go on. What was his response? "I will give you another $15k. I can do it. Lol. When you...
HA!! I have been roasting for 28 years and make a pretty good living without a degree. I also do not have any student loans..my apprenticeship paid me to learn.
I apprenticed on a Diedrich in 94. When I left there my new job bought the first 5 kilo Ambex. I have been roasting ever since. I have used many machines over the years but when I get my choice it is Ambex. I like that if a motor dies I can run to granger and replace it easy-peasy. These...
Thanks guys. Musicphan, I've used them in the past. Pack Plus and pacific bag have a 4 week lead time...PBFY is shipping me 10k by next Monday or Tuesday. Is it just me or is 4 weeks a crazy lead time? We order 10k every time we receive 10k. This worked perfectly until my order got lost in...
I have been buying the flat silver pouches with a valve for the last 8 years or so from this company. I sent an eamil order as I always do and they lost it in their spam file. I said ok, how long till you can complete my order of 10k bags. They said 4 weeks. To me that's crazy. Then they...
Rimusol, I am not sure if you are in the States or not. If you are. What happens to your $13 an hour employee when they raise the minimum wage to $15? Will you raise your current employess to $19.44 to make up for the cost of living increase?
I just did a quick google search. Seems they have been around since 2010. Other than that...not much. I would probably keep looking at other brands unless you can actually see one in person. If you are looking for an affordable roaster check out https://www.ambexroaster.com/ . Tell Amir...
I had a friend call me with an issue. When he roasts he finds 1 to 3 unroasted beans. I told him to get a rubber mallet and tap the down chute when starting his roast. That maybe they are getting stuck bellow the hopper. He spoke to another roaster that suggested putting 1.5 lbs of ball...
It roasts the same if not better. It's quieter for sure. I am not sure if you can see but I actually have pants on. It was a bit chilly when I left in the morning(65degrees) Today though the world is right again! Back in shorts because we started the morning at 72 degrees.
Years of gripping coffee sacks and using a trier for long periods of time is probably the reason I have arthritis. The cold kills my hands. I need the warmth but hate the sun because it plays havoc on my tattoos. I love skiing as well but I can take a vacation to do that. Love to skateboard...
I never have used the co2 only the water. I was offered it a long time ago but it was expensive. You know another thing that can warp a drum is cooling it too quickly. I have had some doozie of fires and to be honest I usually grab a hose I have set up with quick release on the 3 compartment...
Just wanted to rub it in a bit. Things have been insane here. I was able to take the time and enjoy the chilly 69 degreee weather by roasting outside. Hope y'all are staying warm!
I don't name things other than children and pets.:-P Insurance did pay out. I am replacing my ProxPack with a weigh right weigh and fill. Sadkly ProxPack has gone out of business. It's really a shame they went out of business. I had my ProxPack for almost 10 years with not 1 single issue...
I just got my new Kaldi. The old one got destroyed when a car drove through my roastery. I know the Kaldi roasters are for home use but I really like them. The last one lasted for 5 or 6 years. I even brought it home and roasted 20 batches in 2 sittings. I was surprised that the roasts came...
YO!! Brooklyn in da house!! I am the roaster for a bagel/coffee company that replicates the Brooklyn water in every store. We strip the water to pure H2O and then put back the minerals to replicate the water. People come in and say your bagels can't be like Brooklyn's...till they taste...
About 10 years ago I lost my plot on my director of ops. He had been sending my coffee in to that site and paying them to review them. I laughed and asked him to look at our descriptions of our coffees and compare them to what he writes...gonna be close. Sadly I researched who was sponsors of...
I forgot to ask. How are we doing this? I have an iphone we can facetime or I have an android we can use zoom or fb messenger to get your training started? You buy green yet? Hit me up once you get it and lets get you sorted. Wish I was able to fly out and do it in person...but it is what...
Hey John_llm, Is that your site? If it is you might want to re write your description of Koffee Kults dark roast. I just shot a screen shot it and sent it to the owner of Koffee Kult. We both had a good laugh. We especially enjoyed the part where it said they "cooked" the beans. He said he...
Welcome! It's an exciting time for you all. Specialty coffee is really exploding in the UK. I was excited to see a roastery opened in my wifes home town of Clyde Bank. I was over a few years back and it was like the US in the 90's. I give it 5 years and you will have a coffee shop at ever...
Personally I would stay away from this. They are charging $7.49 a lb for flavored coffee. The issue is they sell only in 5 lbs. Minimum is $50?? Nah..buy smaller amounts more frequently. I do sell 5 lb bags to customers. Its mostly my friends that buy that much..but they go through it...
Greg...glad to see you finally post. Can you post the pictures you have of the roaster? Well we will have to wait till you have 5 posts then you can post pics ;)
I have to say the worst for me was the very first espresso I had. I was at the French restaurant at epcot and I was 11 years old. My folks asked what I wanted to drink. I said espresso. They all laughed and said you wont like it. When it was put in front me it was in a ceramic demitasse and...
Musicphan...I charge a dollar a lb to just roast it. I charge on the finished weight. I once had an ex employee call me and ask for me to toll roast for him. I agreed and told him I could for a buck a lb. He said thats crazy! He said he figured it would be $.80 or so. I said I guess I can...
Can I ask why you want to get into the coffee biz? Do you have any coffee knowledge at all? I would personally spend a load of time in cafe's watching. Talk to the staff and get their take on it. This is a hard business. I am not saying it can't be done..just make sure you know what you are...
Take notes on everything you do while roasting. Then keep notes on the coffee you taste. Don't be afraid to experiment. That's how I learned. There wasn't the internet or books when I started. So I took notes and tasted a boat load of coffees! I hope you enjoy your Kaldi. I have had mine...
LOL! Be careful. I had a roaster try to make a plan like that with us. He didn't realize his phone wasn't hung up when he told his partner that he will tell us that his roaster is broken and have us do the stuff they can't keep up with. When he called me a week later saying his roaster was...
What size roaster do you have? I have a 60 and only do toll roasting for a select few. I prefer wholesale. I have a 60 kilo and can make about $240 an hour toll roasting(not bagging) I only toll roast for a select few since the money isn't worth it. If you have a 5 kilo just forget about it...
I assume you are putting all the ingredients in the brew basket? Sounds like a lot of work. I used to roast coffee for a place in Tampa called Berns Steak house. Amazing place if you ever find yourself in Tampa! Anyhoo....I was roasting on an old antique Royal built in 1896. Loved that...
It has happened again. My roastery was hit once again from a motorist. I get that it can be confusing remembering that reverse is one down and drive is 3 down. In the defense of the elderly community here...it was not one of them. It was a middle aged person that just got confused with the...
I used to have a 120, 10 and 2.5 toper. I had to learn how to fix it myself. I would email or send a instant message and never really got support. Check your probe wires. If it gets kinked it can go out every once in a while or have the temp display jump to all different numbers. If you...
Welcome aboard! There is loads of info on this site as well as people. Not to push you away but you might want to also join this forum. https://coffeeforums.co.uk/
Hate to say this but I saw something years ago at a convention. It was a silicone "cup" with magnets around the rim. Once you plunged it attaches to the press filter. When you pulled out the cup came with the press. Once it cooled you simply turn the cup inside out and the grounds come out...
