I know people who take cold brew and add hot water to it. When I first used "Toddy" they had recipes for hot coffee using their cold brew. It takes away so much acidity and some love their hot coffee like that. It's been a while but I think they said use 1/3 concentrate to 2/3 hot water. Side...
Yes 50 lb hopper. We roast about 3500 lbs a week and the hopper actually holds about 60 lbs of the medium roast. Packaging machine is a must. We have an old Prox Pack machine. We have had it for 8 years with no issue. Its not automatic it has a pedal and we knock out about 8k 6 oz bags a...
wmark I love my MPE grinders. I had 9 at my last place and 2 here. I suggest buying the "magnet grid" that sits in the hopper. You will be shocked how much it catches!
I think we will just agree to disagree. Have you ever seen the Lavazza espresso? It is light roast and kicks out loads of crema. Robusta coffee will boost your crema. The reason I roast my espresso dark for my stores is so it shines through the milk and other stuff they pour into the cup. I...
Miscphan is correct. You can not use flavored coffee in your espresso machine. If you brewed pumpkin flavored coffee in your espresso machine it would not turn out like any coffee shops...it would be super strong and not sweet. 1883 is a great company..monin is easier for people to find...and...
Roasting SWP decaf can be difficult. It is easier than it was 10 years ago though. The process used to make the beans look almost black before you roasted them. You would have to roast till you saw a wee bead of oil and then dump...that is the only way you could tell it was fully roasted...
I would contact them. If they say they ship out within a week they should send you another bag. Just my opinion. I ship out within 24 hours of the order placement(business days that is) and do not hold roasted stock. Freshness is so important! Let us know what they say.
LOL green. I had a guy I toll roasted for years ago ask if I could do it for $.50 a lb. I said my rate was $1 a lb. All I would do is roast and throw in a super sack. They guy asked if I could come down...I said sure $.90 green. He was stoked. Funny thing was he would save over $.05 a lb...
Whats a steal? It looks pretty beat up and at that angle you can even see if it has motors. Make sure the drum isn't warped...looks as if it has had a few fires. Are you going to rebuild it yourself of pay someone? Last thing...I am not a fan of roasters with internal chaff collectors.
Welcome! Where in England are you? I celebrated last New Years in Manchester. I would kill to open a roastery over there! You all are about where the states were in the early 90's coffee wise. It is just starting and about to EXPLODE. Maybe if I win the Lotto...again welcome!
I had an Ambex 15 kilo..it was 20 years ago though...so I might be off a bit...I think the smallest batch I did on it was 9 ? if not it was no more than 11. I have an Ambex 60 kilo and I can do 25 lbs batches easily.
The first company I worked for sold a drink called a coffee cooler. It was cold brew, Milk and syrup. This was almost 30 years ago and we called it Toddy not cold brew...
What brand roaster and what size? I have a 60 kilo roaster and have had the power go out several times. I am able to grab the drum spindle and turn it with gloves or a towel...make sure you turn the power off to the machine. I learned that once when the power kicked back on and almost lost my...
You can do all the research you want..but if you do not actually get in there and do the work you really are going to have a hard go at it. I have been to places where they just opened with out actually having experience and it shows. I actually have a client that had no experience at all...
I have sold these in the past...people who bought them love them.

These guys have 2 Petroncini...I believe they have 30 kilos . https://landofathousandhills.com/contact/ See if you can talk to their roastmaster...just do me a favor and do not mention my name. The owner and I had a bit of a falling out.
it doesn't have to be whole bean..whole bean can be ground. Not sure where you are located but if you are in Europe instant is used a lot more than the states. I know a company that makes "flavors" to add to coffee. The flavor doesn't have to be a flavor...it can be things such as Horny Goat...
Why not coat whole bean coffee? Barnies coffee and Tea used to coat their santas white Christmas coffee with titanium dioxide. Turns out it wont hurt you to drink but breathing it is. So I assumed they have stopped. There is a company down the road from me that infuses supplements in their...
I hit up a few coffee roasters when I was in St Pete a month ago. Coffee Lab was pretty cool, Buddy Brew in Tampa(on Kennedy) is aces...In St Pete, Kahwa(475 2nd st) was ok and no name java at 667 central was cool...didnt' have time to check out black crow but if you do let me know its at 722...
Where are you located? Flavormatic Industries, Inc. manufacture and distribution of flavors, fragrances and essential oils worldwide can set you up if you are in the states.
What are you using now or do you not yet offer espresso? It can be a pricey game to get into. They can range used from $900 to over $25,000. What kind of volume are you looking at? You will need to invest in a good espresso grinder as well. What is your current shop like?
Each store has a walk in freezer and produces their own cubes. I feel bad for the people who crack the cubes. Im sorry I haven't responded to your email...going to right now. ;)
If you run coffee through an ice machine it freezes only the water and leaves a foam (coffee) behind. We have tried it on several different brands and same result. I wish we could though :(
Welcome Caiti! There are loads of great and knowledgeable people here on this forum. What do you do for Khaos? Just a friendly heads up ..this is a spam free forum and we are not supposed to promote our businesses here. I hope you continue to visit our forum and help other learn about our...
Ok so Starbux is now offering cold foam for their iced beverages. They put low a fat milk in a blender with cascara for sweetness. I just don't get it. Seems like a lot of work to sweeten foamed milk. Do you think they will gain traction with this? We use coffee iced cubes in our iced...
It is adjusted at the front. DO NOT ADJUST WHILE COLD. I have not adjusted a probat drum in over 15 years...my suggestion would be call Probat. I know on my Ambex 60 kilo when I adjust the drum that it moves super slow...I have to turn the thing a few times before I notice any movement. But...
I have seen almost everything out there. The industry standard is pretty much all the same. It is what is and he hasn't asked so I am going to continue to roast coffee ;)
Pink Rose. I thought about syrups. Funny story I used to roast for the prez of us Monin. It drove me mad when he had us sample drinks like Irish Cream. I explained that since it had citric acid it wouldn't work. His answer? Steam the milk and syrup together....when it foams no one will see...
Do you have any experience in roasting coffee, or coffee in any way? I would consider hiring a consultant or attend the upcoming SCA show in Seattle. Specialty Coffee Expo it's kind of short notice but you would find all the answers you were looking for there. As for pollution control I have...
You have been looking for sometime now. Did you receive any potentials from indeed? How much product are you all moving? I saw the salary and it was a bit low. Not sure if that is due to volume. Have you ever thought of training someone? If you want to chat hit me up at...
Do we have any coffee shop owners from California here? If so have you been informed that you have to post a cancer risk warning about your coffee? I am waiting to see what we will have to do with our 2 stores there. Sigh.
Starbucks, other coffee sellers ordered to warn California...
I understand your concern on cost of equipment. It is expensive. I wouldn't be afraid of used. I have a 2001 60 kilo that I bought in 2003. I have been roasting on it for about 15 years now and it is amazing. I had it rebuilt about 6 or 7 years ago. the thing with roasters is that if you...
