Zombie threads

Happy Halloween.

Ok, the date did color my choice for the thread title. :decaf:

But on a more serious note: I figured out the the forum "helpfully" suggests similar threads to the one your reading. But doesn't filter for the date. Practically inviting a forum newb to post to an old, even ancient thread.

We're trying to discourage people from digging up the "dead" old threads.

It causes a lot of confusion, especially when they ask someone a question and that person hasn't visited the forum in a few years.

It looks like the Forum system only looks at the thread titles, along with the key words within the posts, and makes the suggestion based on that. It appears to ignore the thread posting dates. Some of the old threads are currently active. I guess it would be too hard to find a way to sort through everything and eliminate the really old and unused stuff.

The Zombies keep coming back! I hate when that happens.

Whenever I join a new forum, I spend a lot of time digging through the archives. It is tough not responding to some old topics. There are some great threads from the past here.
