Hey friends,

I hope everyone is enjoying the spring. I am a coffee newbie, and looking for recommendations on a coffee machine/setup. I do not need large quantities, as there are just two of us at home, and we have maybe 2 cups a day each. My partner likes black coffee, i.e. no milk or sugar.

I am keen on trying different roasts of coffee, and using this setup as a means to learn and upgrade to a more elaborate setup in a couple of years.

Any suggestions or further information I can provide?

Thanks a lot,

How involved do you want to be in the process? What's your budget?

All you need is water in the correct temperature range, and a good grinder.

A press pot, a kettle to heat the water, and an entry-level conical burr grinder like the Baratza Encore will give you great results.

I could not agree more with Peter's two questions.

Start with filtered water(99%+ of coffee), and a good burr grinder(the Encore is highly rated for home use).
If you desire only a brewing machine, for convenience and time I would suggest 3 brewers in this order:
1) Technivorm Moccamaster
2) Bonavita
3) Behmor Brazen Plus

For the best home brewing in my opinion. No specific order, although, I prefer the Chemex.
The press pot(French press brewing method)
The Chemex with the Able/Coava stainless steel cone
The siphon method(Hario) or many to choose from.

I guess it will really depend on how you answer those questions.
