Please give me some advice, need help

Hello all,
I am new here to the forum.
I am a 43 year old female and a coffeeholic ... LOVE my coffee .. LOVE IT

BUT, for the last year and getting worse as days go by .. I am having major problems w/ just everything .. it's hard to put into words .. I am having difficulty concentrating, I have no patience anymore, I am very Tense and very depressed and I have absolutely no energy. I don't have any health problems, but anymore I feel like I can barely keep it together mentally and emotionally ... I know flooding my system w/ caffiene is certainly not helping the situation.

2 years ago I was a very fit, very vital , relaxed , happy and enthusiastic girl and now I am on EDGE ... ALL the time..

My question is has anyone else experienced any adverse effects from drinking coffee ? I am beginning to think the coffee is finally taking its toll on my health. I have tried and tried to cut back or quit but it's just impossible.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

Caffeine Psychosis, sounds like what you are experiencing. Whenever I start to feel that caffeien is getting to me, I up the amount of juices and water I drink. It has a positive effect on calming my nerves, I also get more restful sleep. =D

I read through your post then checked with a real close friend of mine for some insight into what you are experiencing.

It sounds like coffee is not the area to look at as the culprit necessarily. There are many a thing that can contribute to the things you are experiencing.

The one post about increasing your water intake is a good one. Your bodies are better than 90 percent water. Coffee is a diuretic which essentially means you will expell fluids as a result of the coffee intake. Tea is another diuretic.

Vitamins in liquid form would be another wise thing to add to the diet. I'm not a product specialist, but Source of Life makes a really good one that you mix into a juice and taste pretty good they say. Available in most natural food stores. Why liquid? It is absorbed by your body 100%, pills are not. This might help you immediately.

One thing that can be looked at is adrenal fatigue. Often affecting the system in ways you have described. Those adrenals are pretty important to the human system. You can research that a little.

Do you work with computers a lot? Sometimes that also contributes to the problem.

These things could help. And if you don't like straight water, then just mix a little juice in with it. And don't let the natural food place talk you into anything other than the liquid based vitamins. Otherwise you are just buying what my friend calls "do-do pills" .

I'm kind of into a liquid diet myself (haha) so all of this appeals to me!

It is never a bad idea to go have it checked out if it really concerns you.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my message. I am seeking help in terms of a nutritionist to see where things stand. And I have restarted my physical fitness program ( used to be avid weight lifter ... not a bodybuilder, but more from a fitness perspective ) and the lack of working out for the past several years due to many transitions in my life, a painful breakup and working 90 hours a week I am afraid has taken its toll ... so during all this, I had my comfort .. my coffee !
I just want to feel like myself again. In the meantime, I have cut back on the coffee. However, it's only been 2 days .. time will tell ! Thanks..

Initially I was thinking you are starting menopause, which could indeed explain what you are going through, how many cups a day do you drink? I find that drinking more then 2 dramatically effects my attitude and performance and not for the better. I used to drink 12-14 shots depending upon the workload, but always ended up paying for it in the end and even then, it was rare to go that far. Caffine is a drug, so you just can't drink it like Kool Aid, if you are totally missing the coffee flavor, I'd suggest switching to decaf after your first couple of cups to get you over that.

Again we see the "show" come to the forum. And now it comes with a therapist, better immune system and increased libido! What's next? Lion's and tigers and bears?

Your traveling medicine show is getting old fast. "Quick Fester, git me another cup of that thar mushroomey healthy coffee stuff to lay cure to me before we git to the Dodge City Forum showing."

Come on, don't try filling my head with that stuff. It's coffee only and plenty of it!

And I'm still mellow and healthy as the month of May.

Everything in moderation

Like everything else, you need to balance how much you take. For the longest time I could only take one cup of coffee but now that I am 42 and have discovered gourmet coffee I am up to 2-3 cups per day. Still I need to make sure I don't go over that.

Given that caffeine's chemical structure is comparable to adenosines, it can attach to adenosine receptors and therefore block adenosine from doing its job properly. So, a good fact about caffeine effects is that it makes brain cells become more active and it makes us feel more alert.

Other caffeine effects (negative) that I have not mentioned yet are: headaches, excessive sleepiness, a feeling like you can’t function without it or flu like symptoms. Caffeine consumption reduces dopamine (a neurotransmitter that is produced by the brains and plays a critical role in the function of the central nervous system), and it can also create more depression and anxiety, as well as an increased heart rate, increased blood sugar, difficulty concentrating and mild stomach upset.

Sorry to be a bit OT here but I just had to say "Man, isn't that the truth!" I've had more people than I want to remember complain the first time they order a cappuccino and it doesn't taste like the powdered c-store product. Then it's all about education and trying to teach them what a cap is to correct a percieved defect in my product, what a pain.
 
Liquid Diets

So you can follow the below :
1."Buy" your artificially sweetened drinks. If you drink an artificially sweetened drink and/or one with caffeine, buy it back with at least an equivalent sized drink of water. Eight ounces of coffee? Follow it with eight ounces of water.

2.Include soups and juices in your diet. These are high liquid content. Just be aware that while nutritionally better for you than diet drinks or drinks with caffeine, they DO contain calories.

Hey, I can really sympathise with your situation, I know exactly how it feels. Caffeine and coffee particularly was a huge passion of mine and I just loved it until I realised that it was affecting my life in way I hadn't realised (I hope you guys don't min me posting a link http://www.caffeinefreeliving.com as this site explains how it really negatively affected me.
I just felt kinda bereft of energy all the time...sometimes incredibly great and other times just totally miserable. When I made the decision to quit I felt down...but to cut a long story short..its the best thing I ever did..I feel so much clamer now and clear headed. I used to get so upset with myself for being snappy and uptight...thats gone now. I really feel for you but have a go at quitting, you won't regret it!
