making an Americano

would like to try to make a longer black and have seen references to a drink called the Americano, how much water should be added to the shot? should it be a single or double shot? is a double shot 30ml or more?

I use a triple basket (21 grams) but a double will work just fine. I add approx. 5 oz. water from my steam boiler, into the creamer pitcher first (kills off a lot of excessive heat), then add it to my shot, which went directly into my cup.
