I'm trying to open a shop in Boston but was told by the building guys Downtown that I would need a bathroom for a wheelchair access.

This is even if I just have 2 stools. The place is tiny so I don’t think I could have a bathroom even for the non disabled.

Can a coffee shop be successful without seating and just have take out?

Hmmm... that's a tough one. I think part of the "coffee culture" is to sit and talk to friends, strangers, and fellow coffee lovers over a cup of joe.

On the other hand, it's part of America's culture to get in, get out, no hassle, no small talk. So I think that yes, you could be successfull, granted you can make quality beverages pretty fast, so that people don't feel the need to sit down waiting on their drinks. I'm interested to hear what others have to say - hopefully you'll get more responses!

I own a drive up, strictly a drive up, and I do well. Heck, there isn't even a bathroom for me let alone anyone else. Folks love being able to drive up, get their coffee and go. :)
