Hello Nickole,

Welcome to the Coffee Forums website!

We have several members of this forum who have experience in opening a coffee shop. I'm sure you will get a lot of useful information here.

In the Caribbean, will it be okay to operate a pet-friendly coffee shop? Are you planning to have outside tables for people who have pets, or will the pets be allowed in the cafe? I've never encountered a pet friendly coffee shop. I always thought that the local health departments strongly discourage any establishment that serves food (or beverages) from allowing pets inside.

I have to politely ask people to leave when they bring their pets inside the cafe where I work. Some people are nice about it, and some people get very nasty. I'll never forget the time when a woman came into the cafe pushing a baby carriage, and after she got her coffee and sat down, I heard barking coming from her direction. I walked over to the baby carriage and saw a little dog in there. It was like a rolling doggie bed!

I hope you will enjoy exploring the coffee forum.

Lol Oh sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound like so. I had more of a concept of where I have small shop structure (stocked in baked goods as well as dog treats, coffee and incense) in a medium-large outdoor space of seating. I completely understand but never even thought of welcoming pets inside.
I do this routine at work now where they come in our shop, order their coffees or teas and breads and have a seat or continue to shop, then go to their tables and serve. Most of the time, I don't even know some of our customers have pets until we bring their plates.
Thanks for the welcome, I'd still like to hear opinions around every corner :)

Hello Nocciola;
What part of Bahamas are you in? Nassau? Paradise Island? Other island?
There are alot of ideas for opening a coffee shop on these forums that I have found helpful. How much experience do you have running a business? How much expierence do you have with coffee shops? How much money do you have saved up and how much will you need? First thing is to get a business plan started. You need to figure out exactly what type of drinks and food you will be selling. I think iced coffee and iced capps will probably be a big hit. What competion do you have? Where will you be located? Will your business be mainly morning customers or afternoon or combination? Will your customers be more local or tourist? Is there a local roaster or will you have to import your beans? These are just some of the beginning questions you have to ask yourself. The grass is always greener on the other side and anytime you get into your own business it can be a real eye opener. The best thing you can do is get as much detail as you possibly can.

Hello "JACKADEN"

Welcome to the Coffee Forums!

I noticed that you wrote in another post that you in the UK. Thanks for including that information.

As I started writing this, I began to think that would be very interesting if new members would tell us what part of the globe they're from. Actually, I'm thinking of starting a new thread to ask everyone that question.
