Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum & log in as jhalford. I am retired for about 10 or so years and recently decided to get a press pot. So far, I like it! The only beans I have tried are some my wife bought at a local super market. The coffee isn''t all that great, but after 22 years in the Navy, I learned to drink just about anything. Maybe someone could suggest a good bean for me to try.

Thanks,

Jim Halford

Hi Jim and Welcome to Coffeeforums.

So you say you have a press pot now? Great, what size is it?

I would strongly recommend that you visit nearby coffee shops and try some of their coffees. Some roast their own and sell by the 8oz bag or larger. We're talking quality and freshness here.

What got me hooked on good coffee using my french press was Sumatran coffee from a roaster in Vermont. It was so much better and robust than the coffees I had been buying from the supermarket.

Some of my faves:
Sumatrans
Kenyans
South Americans

Search this forum for such topics as grind fineness, french press, brew methods, measures and temperatures. Good luck and again welcome! :D
