Hello!
I come asking for help! Recently, I noticed my french press coffee has been bland and under extracted I believe. My method is as follows:
7.5 grind on a Sopresso burr grinder
8 scoops of grinds
200 degree filtered water
Pour all grinds in the beaker
Saturate beans and bloom 30 seconds
Slowly pour in remainder of water.
Total brew time approx 7-8 minutes.
I started to watch my steep and noticed a cascade of falling/ dropping grinds. I had never noticed this before. I thought maybe I got a bad batch of beans but I went through this with three different bags of beans (2 different brands) from my local whole foods.
If you can imagine a Guinness beer and how the head cascades, it's like that but slower. I also attempted to brew it in an aeropress and it tasted pretty much the same.
The coffee is just not what it used to be. I can't explain it.
About half my beans are at the bottom after approx 7 minutes. (I like to steep longer to get a bolder flavor).
Has anyone encountered this before?
Thanks!
