I just used new DeLonghi EC 155 coffee machine for a week. Once I just forgot that water tank is empty, and turned switch On. The pump worked very noisy approx 20-25 sec, until I turned switch Off. Is this issue safe for pumpr? Have the boiler and pump some protection against such issues, when switch machine On without water in tank?

Of course it isn't good/safe for most pumps to run dry. Some vibe pumps have thermal protection, but it's not likely it'd be in a lower end home machine. Higher end home machines have a microswitch under the water tank that kills power to the heating element, etc. when low water is detected.

How does the pump perform now? Best advice I can offer is to always top off your water tank before firing the machine up.

It works. One thing I noticed, it makes less noise when water tank is almost full compare with tank filled partially, at 1/3 or so. But that's subjective, however.
