cupping question

I watch videos of people cupping and I have started recently. After I break the crust I can't get all the grounds to settle to the bottom of the cup. It is very hard to sample the coffee without getting grounds in the spoon. Any advice on proper technique, because, I know I'm doing it wrong!

I did a coup;le of times but it seemed to take a little while to do it so I figured I was doing that wrong, too. Do I just need to have patience and devote a few minutes to that? That sounds lazier than it is intended to sound!
