Hi all,

Has anyone here tried the Crossland CC1? I'm considering it as an alternative to the Rancilio Silvia, which everyone says is very finicky about the grind.

Thanks.

The main reason for the behavior of the Silvia is the offset boiler/group. It has a 12 oz. boiler which is capable of good temperature stability and plenty of steaming capacity, but the boiler isn't right over the group and this causes the instability in temperature.

Any decent machine will benefit from the proper grind for a given coffee, freshness of that coffee, etc.

All machines (maybe aside from pressurized portafilter machines) are finicky about the grind the CC1 and silvia will both be finicky. In fact probably the first thing you should consider is the grinder you are going to purchase before you even start shopping for the machine, its that important. You are going to want a least a mid level burr grinder (in the $2-350 range) and IMO would spring for something like a barzato Vario or above so you only have to buy it once (you can find these used for ~300-350)

As far as machines go if you are going to be making a few milk drinks you might also want to look at the Quick Mill Silvano(Thermoblock design like CC1 but a better execution of it) or the Nuova Simonelli Oscar (HX machine) or even the Bezerra BZ07 (also HX) if you want to spend that much
