Hey there everyone! :)

Quick question: I drink about 2-3 dl of coffee a day. I've never had a problem with it, but these 2 last weeks I've been experiencing a minor burning sensation in my upper throat, which is undoubtly the effect of acid reflux. Now, IF my coffee is the cause, for how long do I have to uphold drinking it until I can rule it out as the causing factor?

Cheers! :)

Acid reflux can be caused by a number of things. Two of which are how we drink or eat and when. It's been advised not to eat or drink anything to close to bedtime.
Also try to refrain from eating or drinking in a semi-prone position. Hope this helps.

Well, there is this thing I didn't mention in the OP. I'm currently unemployed, and so I've developed this habit of waking up 8am, eating breakfast, and then go to sleep until about 11am. I guess this could lead to acid reflux, as you shouldn't eat or drink to close to bedtime?

Anyways, since I love my black poison, I'm just thinking about for how long I should stop drinking coffee to see if it's the causing factor? I've already stopped with my aforementioned eating/sleeping habit.

Since you've been having this problem for a couple of weeks, stop drinking coffee for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

If you still have the problem, the coffee isn't causing it.

If you don't have the problem or if it's less severe, then the coffee may have been a factor in causing it.

You're right. . . . Waking up at 8am and having breakfast and then going back to bed until 11 am isn't a good idea. Now that you've stopped doing that, are you feeling any better?

Well, I've only had this problem for aproximetely 2 weeks, and the burning sensation is actually pretty moderate to what real heartburn/acid reflux feels like, so I'm not going crazy here at least!

I've changed my sleeping habit for I guess 1 week. So I think I'm going to try and fix that issue first before attacking the coffee. The best thing would of course to stop both altogether, and then introduce coffee later, but as I said, I love my coffee so much. Now that I'm unemployed it's one of those golden moments during the day when I get to drink a cup. And while I did say that I drink 2-3 dl a day, I think it's more like 4 dl, to be honest. But those 2 cups mean a lot to me!

Changing your sleeping habit is a good idea. I hope you change it and keep it changed.
The whole concept of waking up and eating breakfast (and drinking coffee) is meant to get your metabolism going in the morning. Maybe you should go outside for a nice relaxing walk instead of going back to bed.

Hi I think, that problem of yours is not just you can ask on the forum. I didn't say that it is bad to ask but the thing you must do first, is to consult a specialist. That kind of problem is not anyone else you can ask, but instead, go to the specialist and ask for some medication you must do.

I would have to agree. You may need to seek medical advice or attention.

I used to suffer from acid reflux or heartburn. I sought medical advice and was prescribed Prevacid years ago.
I did not like it, so I resorted to apple cider vinegar, the doctor thought I was crazy. My testimony is this:
it works for me. Haven't suffered in years. I try to consume some everyday. Even put it in my salads and on veggies.
It may not work for you. But it has for many.
