Barcodes

I'm thinking I would like to start using a bar code reader to track sales at farm markets and such. What I envision is having a sheet next to the cash register with the barcodes on it, and just scan the code for the type of coffee sold.

My goal for this is to get real numbers for what's selling, so I can better plan my roasts.

If others are doing this, what software are you using?

I use the POS function within Shopify (which drives my eCommerce)... I simply ring up a customer off my ipad.

Are you talking UPC? If so you will have to apply for a GS1 and then pay for the upc codes. It seems like a waste unless you are going to go into larger markets. I assume your register has sku buttons that you can assign your different products to. It's a bit basic but will give you an accurate sales reports.

Are you using a Bluetooth scanner and Shopify POS? I use Shopify for my online store, but wasn't sure about the bar codes. Their version of barcode software isn't doesn't have good reviews.
