Sample roasting on a 3 kilo?

Hankua, what sample roaster are you roasting on? I understand roast curves or plans (as in burner and fan settings, drop temp…) will almost never translate between different roasters, but in my limited expereince it is possible to do similar profiles on two different machines. For instance...

Sample roasting on a 3 kilo?

Thanks, I will certainly check that out. I wouldn't say I have an aversion to buying stuff from China, but in my experience even though products from China might be less expensive up front, there not always a better deal in the long run… They certainly can be though. I'm open to all...

Opinions of 1 pound sample roasters

Very good point. I've seen this done on 12kilo's but it never occurred to me that it might be problematic on a smaller roaster with a smaller sampler.

Does anyone have any experience roasting a Husky/Quest AND a US Roaster or San Franciscan 1 lbs that could comment on how they alike and different?

Opinions of 1 pound sample roasters

I understand you can use the trier to sample different roast levels within a single roast, but what about experimenting with different profiles?

Opinions of 1 pound sample roasters

Remember it's all relative and depends on what kind of business you are doing (are you doing any wholesale?) In the general scheme of things a 12 kilo is still a very small roaster. Someone with a 30 kilo would say the same thing about your 12 kilo… and some roasting on a full bag roaster...

Opinions of 1 pound sample roasters

So basically in your experience the 3kg can do everything the 1 lbs can? The 1 lbs does small batches slightly better but not a night and day difference? Can you still get relatively consistent results roasting .5lbs on the 3 kg? Thanks.

Eldub, are you saying that you don't have anything smaller than a 12kg at your roastery? You do everything on the 12kg?

Opinions of 1 pound sample roasters

First of all thanks for the input, it really is valuable. My concern (in my other thread) was wether I would have problems getting consistent roasts doing 1,.5, or even 1/4 pound batches for sampling and profiling on a 3 kilo roaster. I'm gathering that this is not a valid concern :). But...

Sample roasting on a 3 kilo?

Thanks for the responses guys, this is exactly why I ask first. I'm certainly not an expert, just diving into the coffee world so to speak. I've only dealt with one importer and they do 1 kilo samples but you guys are saying .5-1 pound is more the norm, wouldn't that be even more problematic...

Does anyone have any experience with any (or all) of these 1 lbs sample roasters?: US Roaster Corp Sample Roaster Diedrich IR-1 San Franciscan SF-1 They appear to be more similar that not in design and price. I'm curious if one has any advantages or disadvantages over the others as I am in...

Sample roasting on a 3 kilo?

I am in the process of setting up a small specialty coffee roaster, and was hoping I could get a little advice from someone with more experience. My business plan is to sell retail online and do a small amount of wholesale locally. In other words I am talking about a very small scale...
