I watch videos of people cupping and I have started recently. After I break the crust I can't get all the grounds to settle to the bottom of the cup. It is very hard to sample the coffee without getting grounds in the spoon. Any advice on proper technique, because, I know I'm doing it wrong!
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on a good blend using Colombian beans ( and anything else). Are there some definite "don'ts"? I know this is a random question but I am looking to try blending for the first time.
I have seen many videos on how roasters pull 2-3 triers of beans as they go through a roast to find the best temps for a new batch of beans. My question is: If letting beans rest 2-4 days lets best flavors come out, will that translate from cupping the beans shortly after they are pulled from...
I know that organic, fair trade, shade grown certifications are a good way to ensure that the farming practices are globally responsible and that the farmers are compensated appropriately. It seems to me that in this day of specialty coffee, many roasters/importers are looking to develop...
How do you roast on a sample roaster? I see them at the large cup pings, sometimes 5-8 in a row. do they just roast a pound or 2 to a particular temp or do they control the heat more like a large drum roaster? thx
I am looking for a distributor out of the Jacksonville area. I want to buy sacks of coffee and was wondering if anyone knew of anyone in the general viscinity. thanks!
I have been tying to coast Kenyan beans for a couple of months and cannot, for the life of me, come close to some of the roasts I have had. I just can't bring out the "in your face fruit" aroma and flavors. My question is; How different are the beans themselves, in that, does the region play a...
greenbeandirect is great because you are getting the beans as soon as they are acquired from the supplier. How old is too old to acquire beans? I have seen beans with other suppliers where they acquired the beans in 6/2013 or even early 2013 and are still offering. Is this too old?
I have seen a handful of sellers on ebay. the prices are pretty good and the shipping is free for a lot of them. Anyone know much about how they source their beans and the overall quality? For example, you can get guatemala antigua beans for $4.50 per pound with free 2 day shipping. Do you...
I am looking to upgrade from my Behmor and would like to avoid paying 5000+! Anyone with experience/knowledge of the coffee orators club devices? The PID controller is intriguing but I don't know how much it will control the roasting process?
Ok, for the most part I am happy with the roasts on the behmor, but, at times I am getting a lightly bitter after taste. I am starting to try to change my roast profile by opening the door 1-3 times between 1c and 2c. I keep tight notes on the times to 1c and 2c and how the cracks sound...
A buddy of mine is going to Guatemala over the holidays and is going to be checking out coffee coops in his area (where there are quite a few). He has the ability to go there frequently for business and was wondering what the process was to purchase whole sale coffee. Does anyone know the...
Does anyone have a good idea as to the blend starbucks uses to make Pike Place? It sees like a Melange of south and Central American beans, but, I am new to all the profiles and their flavors. thanks!
