Hi- I roast on a Diedrich IR 3 propane roaster.
Tonight when I went to roast, the pilot light sparked up like normal, and then the burners lit... but within a few seconds the glass on the door of the roast cylinder starting fogging up and a few seconds later what seemed like a clean burn...
I know that not everyone is guilty of this... but I have seen a lot of used roasters, like really old roasters, listed for sale at a price that is basically or 90% of the price of the same roaster new. WHY? There seems to be a distinct lack of supply of quality used roasters, which I guess...
I have found a fairly good price on an afterburner that is rated for roasters 2 to 7 kilo, it has 400,000 BTU max output, maximum CFM is 200, and I think the unit it self holds 4.5 cubic feet. It is a very basic set point style of incinerator.

Does anyone have roasting experience on 10kg Northern Roaster imported by Mill City? Most of the reviews on Mil City are around the small roasters, I'm wondering how the bigger ones stack up for commercial scale production?
The price is attractive... a 15 kg roaster made in China sold by Mill City Roasters or a roaster made in Turkey, like Toper or Golden. Any opinions on quality of build, usefulness, service/support, life span?
I know the easy response is 'you get what you pay for', by posting this I guess I am...
Anyone have any advice, favourite type of hand cart, dolly, pallet jack, that is useful for moving around single bags of green coffee beans? For small roasters that don't have loading machines, what do folks do to lift coffee beans and move around beans?
Thanks!
Hi There, looking upgrade and expand roasting capacity. Preference for a Diedrich roaster with some computer profiling potential, ideally between 12 to 24 kg capacity, and not an antique (built in Idaho vs. California). I'm located in Canada. Thanks.
